Chicago Area Librarians' Calendar (link currently broken--will reload ASAP), a comprehensive calendar of librarian-relevant events locally, nationally and globally, provided by the Metropolitan Library System. A great one-stop shop of continuing education sessions, conferences and other opportunities of interest to librarians.

Subscribe to the Informed Librarian e-newsletter. It's free! A current awareness service offering monthly TOC's of domestic and international library-related journals, for "keeping up" on trends in the profession.

Tech Soup is a valuable stop for non-profits looking for all levels of technical advice and resources, includes how-to's and free or discounted software products

LISfeeds: the one place for all your RSS feeds for library news updates

RSS feeds for non-techie librarians and more sources

Steven Bell's Keeping Up Page, feeling overwhelmed? This is a one-stop shop (aimed at academic librarians but generally useful) on how to keep up with new technologies and resources

Mary Ellen Bates' Tip of the Month, a useful suggestion page, with archives of earlier "tips"

Current Cites, a searchable collection of citations (many available full-text) of current information technology literature. A nice site which can even dynamically generate bibliographies. Subscribers can receive the free weekly e-newsletter.

FindIt! Illinois, the Illinois State Library's digital library of government information (can have a lengthy load time...but worth the wait!)

FirstGov, for contacting elected officials (state and federal)

GovEngine, for locating state government information (elected officials, websites, documents, laws...)

GPO Access, online resources for accessing government publications from "A-Z", from the Government Printing Office

CyberCemetery, access to defunct government documents, provided by the University of North Texas Libraries and the U.S. Government Printing Office

US Census site, for accessing current demographic stats

Bureau of Labor Statistics site, for locating nationwide occupational and employment stats

NACO, the website for the National Association of County Officials

 

Legal Information:

FindLaw

LexisNexis InfoPro, free resources for librarians available from LexisNexis

The Virtual Chase, a useful guide to legal research for professionals

LLRX.com (Law Library Resource Exchange), an online journal offering up-to-date tools and resources for research and technology-related issues geared toward library and legal professionals.

Hieros Gamos, a monstrous, useful directory to national and international law, professional associations and professional development resources, conferences, law schools, law libraries, legal directories, employment links, you name it!

 

Medical Information:

Medlineplus.gov, medical information geared towards patients (very user-friendly site)

PubMed, great research database for health and disease-related information, with citations from the major databases of the National Library of Medicine (including MEDLINE)

Allrefer.com has a nice health section

Medical Reference for Non-Medical Librarians, speaks for itself, useful directory of sites
